The short version: there is no sign-up, no real names, no advertising and no tracking. Almost everything about your visit stays on your own device.
What stays on your device
Hush Chapel keeps a few things in your browser's local storage so the chapel remembers you when you return:
- your pilgrim name (chosen at random from a fixed list of words),
- the dates you visited (to deepen your cloak color),
- the pages in your Verse Journal and where you left off reading,
- your sound and reading-voice settings.
These are never sent to us. You can erase them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser. Your cloak will then begin again in cream.
What the chapel shares while you are inside
So that others can see you are there, your pilgrim name, cloak color, where you sit, and simple actions (lighting a candle, praying, bowing) are passed to the other people in the same room. This is held only in memory while you are connected and is gone when you leave. There is no chat, and nothing you type is shared.
Pilgrims marked ✦ are quiet companions shown when the chapel is nearly empty. They are not real people.
What we keep
Only totals: how many candles were lit each day, how many prayers were lifted, and how many people are in the chapel right now. These numbers are not connected to anyone.
Hosting and technical data
Hush Chapel runs on Cloudflare. To deliver the site and protect it from abuse, Cloudflare necessarily processes technical information such as your IP address. We do not store IP addresses, we do not use analytics or advertising cookies, and we do not sell or share personal data. You can read Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Fonts and all other files are served from our own site; your browser does not contact outside font or analytics services.
Reading aloud
When a verse is read aloud with your device's voice, your phone or browser does the reading. Some browsers may use their own online speech service; that is governed by your browser's privacy policy.
Children
Hush Chapel is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Your choices and rights
Because we do not hold personal information tied to you, there is usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you are in the UK or EU and have a question about your rights, please write to us and we will help. Where data protection law applies, the limited processing described here is based on our legitimate interest in running a simple, safe service.
Changes
If this policy changes — for example, when ways to support the chapel are added — we will update this page and the date above.
